Mitt Jones

Mitt Jones brings 15 years of energy efficiency field and research experience to his role as an Associate Director at Cadeo. Combining hands-on experience with building science, evaluation, and communications expertise, Mitt draws on his diverse background to ensure that all aspects of each project meet project and stakeholder needs—from workplan and sampling plan development through data collection, analysis, and reporting. Mitt has led and managed a variety of complex projects in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. His past projects include large baseline studies, demand-side management (DSM) portfolio evaluations, and other research efforts.

After more than 20 years writing and editing content about technology, Mitt embraced his passion for building science and energy efficiency by founding and running a home performance business. He has worked with hundreds of homeowners to diagnose and solve home energy problems. In the process, he learned the real-world challenges, limitations, and benefits of energy retrofits. He also gained insight into the interplay between program design and the products and services contractors can viably offer. During this time he also served as a board member and officer of the Home Performance Guild of Oregon. There, he advocated for contractor-supportive policies and served as technical lead and liaison with the Energy Trust of Oregon. He gained a deeper understanding of the impacts of regulatory requirements and the needs of DSM program administrators and implementers.

Mitt then joined Cadmus Group, where he worked for eight years. There, he led DSM program and portfolio evaluations, baseline studies, and other research. This experience led to not only many technical and market insights but also understanding of additional perspectives through work with national laboratories, state governments and agencies, public utility commissions, public and investor-owned utilities, and program administrators and implementors.

Mitt is a voting member of the Regional Technical Forum (RTF). The RTF is a technical advisory committee to the Northwest Power and Conservation Council. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from McNeese State University. Additionally, he studied journalism and other topics as a graduate student. Mitt is also a BPI Certified Building Analyst Professional and completed Level 1 Infrared Imaging for Building Diagnostics certification. He has held numerous other certifications, including through BPI, the National Radon Proficiency Program, and Solar Energy International training.

When he’s not working, Mitt enjoys spending time with his family, tending to his small backyard frog pond, and obsessively researching a never-ending stream of not-so-important topics.
